Kill Switch Explained
What is Kill Switch?
Kill Switch is a safety feature that automatically blocks your internet connection if the VPN tunnel drops unexpectedly. This prevents your real IP address and unencrypted traffic from leaking during the brief moment when the VPN is reconnecting.
How to enable Kill Switch
- Open SkyDomeVPN and go to Settings.
- Find the Kill Switch toggle (under Connection or Privacy section).
- Enable it. The setting takes effect immediately.
On iOS, Kill Switch is implemented via the system's built-in "Connect on Demand" feature, which automatically reconnects the VPN if it drops.
When Kill Switch activates
- Your device switches between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- The VPN server goes offline or restarts.
- Your internet connection momentarily drops.
- The app is force-closed while a VPN session is active.
App Kill Switch vs System Kill Switch
SkyDomeVPN offers two modes on desktop: App Kill Switch (only blocks selected apps) and System Kill Switch (blocks all internet traffic). Use System Kill Switch for maximum protection.
